Are horoscopes real?

No. Absolutely not. Here’s proof.

The “Zodiac Signs” you are encouraged to believe by Hollywood, magazines and other media publications are all false and promoted because it is an easy way to make money off of people’s insecurities and inability to make their own decisions. Hence, the rude but clickbait title.

Let’s start with the facts. Did you know that there are more than 12 Zodiac signs? There are actually 13.  Yes NASA has identified the 13th sign of the zodiac as Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer from November 30 to December 18. Due to this new zodiac sign being removed 3,000 years ago by the Babylonians and now revealed by NASA, all the dates of the zodiacs have changed around.

So if you identified as a “Scorpio” you might actually be a Virgo or a Libra now. Check out the new dates below.

The original Zodiac Dates Are Wrong

Here are the correct dates for the star signs:

Capricorn: Jan 20 – Feb 16
Aquarius: Feb 16 – March 11
Pisces: March 11 – April 18
Aries: April 18 – May 13
Taurus: May 13 – June 21
Gemini: June 21 – July 20
Cancer: July 20 – Aug 10
Leo: Aug 10 – Sept 16
Virgo: Sept 16 – Oct 30
Libra: Oct 30 – Nov 23
Scorpio: Nov 23 – Nov 29
Ophiuchus: Nov 29 – Dec 17
Sagittarius: Dec 17 – Jan 20

But my Horoscope is always right?

As NASA themselves explain, “no one has shown that astrology can be used to predict the future or describe what people are like based only on their birth date.”

They add that the zodiac is “not science” and that it simply offers comfort in a similar manner to “reading fantasy stories”. These are NASA’s words not mine. Mine would be harsher.

Basically horoscopes have always being nonsense. Of course they are absolutely interesting and many people can actually make a career out of this (Walter Mercado) claiming they can “predict your future” but again it is not true. It’s just simple persuasion and manipulation tactics also known as the Forer Effect.

What is the Forer Effect?

The Forer Effect was discovered by the psychologist Bertram Forer who first figured out that it was pretty darn easy for people to agree with vague descriptions about themselves without realizing they could apply to basically everyone and their momz. Forer tested his hypothesis in a sneaky way: He gave a personality test to psychology students and then asked how well the results matched them.

Only thing? They all got the exact same “sketch” of results that “described” their personality, based on their unique answers. And pretty much everyone thought the description was spot-on or close to it. A few examples from the sketch are phrases like,

“You have a great need for other people to like and admire you,”

“You have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others”

and

“You have a tendency to be critical of yourself” [source: Forer].

I mean come on bro, who doesn’t sometimes feel or think those thoughts. The Forer effect basically is just a scheme to make you think you’re special or manipulate a human’s basic needs/thoughts in a way to seem “3rd eye-ish”. Tarot card readings, divination, shamanic practices, those goofy crystals that women use to repel evil and of course the famous blue evil eye pendants are all examples of this simple parlor trick to take your money.

If you want to learn more about this, here’s the full article on the Forer effect.

Other reasons to question Horoscopes

Horoscopes are very interesting to read and suck people into a rabbit hole sometimes. Here’s a random horoscope I found online. Let’s read it.

Jul 14, 2021 – Hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication are now paying off financially, Taurus. New opportunities are opening up to profitably make use of your artistic side. The downside is that you might be working so hard that you’re too drained to be creative even though the inspiration is there. Take a moment to rework your schedule to accomplish the most in the least amount of time. You can do it.

How do you think prison cell mates would feel about their horoscopes if they could read this?

Do you think this could be applied to them? What about people that are struck blind, deaf and lame. Or the homeless person on the streets. If these readings were indeed true or even remotely close to our daily lives, then they definitely are not applicable to all its readers or even a huge chunk of them.

Final Thoughts

If you start to think critically about the horoscopes, you will start to realize that there is no way this can be true. This passage about Taurus cannot be applied to every single Taurus person in the world. It is just impossible to do so. We are all unique individuals and yes we can have many similarities in life but our essence and individuality is much greater than the constellation you were born under. Humans are more complex than that and I hope this article helps you wake up from the myth of horoscopes. We all wish we could see the future sometimes and seek guidance from a higher power but the reality is, we are on our own when it comes to the decisions we have to make in life.

Life is hard. That’s a fact. No amount of readings or horoscopes will change that. The only thing we can do is keep grinding and never give up. Trust in God, your family and keep the love alive. You’ll go further that way. Blessings!
