Who is Manny Pacquiao?
Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao also known as “PacMan” was born on December 17, 1978. Manny Pacquiao is a Filipino professional boxer and politician who rose from poverty to become one of the best in his sport, he also became a senator in the Philippines.
Manny Pacquiao is an idol and a force in the Philippines, where his popularity led to commercial endorsements, movies, television shows, CDs, and his image on a postage stamp. On September 19 he announced that he will be retiring from boxing and will be running for president of the Philippines.
Boxing Career
“I’ve been boxing for a very long time. My family has long been saying that I should retire already. I just kept on fighting because I’m passionate about the sport.”
26 years of pro boxing was enough for Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao he said. Many are people are still hoping he puts the gloves back on one more time. Some people close to the legendary boxer think Pacquiao’s decision is not yet final.
Either way, he claimed in the interview that he will not fight again. His first professional match was in 1995 and recorded 62 victories, including 39 by way of knockout. He has eight defeats and two draws on his roster but his wins out weigh his losses.
Political Campaign
“I am a fighter, and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring,” Pacquiao, 42, said in his speech.
Pacquiao says he will run for president in the 2022 elections saying that the Filipino people have been waiting for a change of government.
“We need government to serve our people with integrity, compassion and transparency,” he added.
Final Thoughts
Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxers the world has ever seen and its a shame to see him retire. He is an inspiration to many people around the world with all of his greatest feats. He will now have the opportunity to help out his home and change things for the better for his own people. With everything that happened during his time as a boxer its nice to see that he never forgot who he is and where he came from.
